When the old way stops working...

Dear Reader,

A lot is changing and shifting today… in the world at large, in the business and marketing landscape, and personally for many.

Many of us are finding that the old ways of doing things simply aren’t working anymore.

Whether it's a marketing strategy that once brought in clients or a career that used to feel fulfilling or a general approach to life that's starting to feel stale, something may no longer be working.

If that’s you, you're not alone.

When you find yourself here, your first instinct may be to try harder. Or alternatively, you might feel like crashing out!

Choosing the former can can burn you out; choosing the latter can take you out of the game entirely.

But what if the problem isn't how hard you're trying (or not trying)?

What if the problem IS actually that the old way doesn't work anymore?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, both in terms of my own life and work, and in those I’ve been working with.

We're taught that consistency means showing up, and self-discipline means not quitting, even when something is no longer serving us. That questioning our choices means we made the wrong ones.

When in reality, circumstances change. Markets change. We change.

And sometimes the most productive thing we can do is stop trying to make an outdated approach work.

That doesn't mean we need to abandon everything and start over. It could mean adjusting our expectations, questioning old assumptions, or giving ourselves permission to consider something different.

So if you find yourself here, ask yourself this:

Is there an area of your life or business where you’ve been trying to make work, that simply isn't working anymore?

What if you stopped asking,"How can I make this work?" and started asking, "How can I see this differently?"

Often that question can open up new possibilities.
